Why Choose Hi Spec Calipers?

Hi Spec calipers are all produced from aerospace grade 6082 T6 Billet alloy. 6082 T6 is a high strength and lightweight material. The billet being T6 heat treated means that it will easily cope with the temperature demands that any race vehicle will require. We use billet alloy instead of cast alloy as it has a very consistent molecular construction and results in a product that has a consistent strength throughout.

It is important that the strength be uniform as any fluctuation could result in a weak point and possible failure.

 

All Hi Spec calipers are either anodised or aluchrom treated inside and out to ensure that there is no oxidation of the aluminium.

This means that we can produce calipers that will withstand the tests of time.

 

At Hi Spec, we produce calipers to deliver optimum performance. To get the best pressure and pedal feel from our brake calipers, we match the total piston area to the vehicle master cylinder but also optimise this on the pad surface area. Whilst having an 8, 10 or even 12 piston caliper sounds great down the pub, it normally means that the pistons have to be very small to fit across the pad. This ultimately results in a smaller total piston area when compared to a 6 piston caliper using the same pad length. The total piston area is directly related to the amount of pressure a caliper is able to exert on the pad (clamping force) and also to pedal travel. A small piston area will give you a very short, stiff pedal with no feel for the brakes. The clamping force will also be low.

 

All Hi Spec calipers are tested to 2000 psi, this is almost double the pressure you would see from a master cylinder. This means that we can be confident that every caliper we sell can easily cope with anything you throw at it.

 

Square cut EPDM high temperature racing seals are used on all Hi Spec calipers so that you can rely on them in the most demanding situations.

 

The Hi Spec road caliper range is designed for daily use. They feature dust seals to protect the pistons and seals from dirt. This means that the road calipers are relatively maintenance free.
